The room at the very top floor was a good size with a standard double bed and a balcony large enough to have a chair to relax in. It also had a separate en-suite bathroom which was a good size with very modern furnishings - the shower water pressure was one of the best experienced over several decades of travelling on business; and a simple joy. Not all rooms had separate bathrooms though - my colleague’s room had the wash basin and shower cubicle within the bedroom space. The hotel is located only a short walk from many bars and restaurants with trams near by and bus stops outside the hotel so was an ideally located. It’s 3 minutes to the Basel SBB train station by bus and from there, 20 minutes by bus to the airport.

The staff are friendly, helpful and professional. The buffet breakfast starts from 6 AM through 10:30 AM which is very well prepared with delicious baked croissants and breads, fresh preserves and butter, hot porridge and various roasted vegetables, mushrooms, cold cuts, various cheeses, yogurts, fresh and dry fruits and nuts...of course various coffee and teas. The location is very convenient which is one tram stop from the train station and walking distance to the City Center. We had the Small Charming Room which it's true to its name. We had wonderful time and extended our staying because we had such a nice time!

It’s all the little touches that made this hotel so special. They’ve really thought through what a traveller might need in their room and added a few surprises. Such as a turntable and there were 2 of my favourite albums in the small collection provided! Sparkling water on tap in the downstairs bar. Duvet selection service. External motorised blinds to keep the room dark/cool. Good shower pressure. They were able to swap my room for one on the other side of the building away from the busy road (my original room was well soundproofed so the traffic noise was faint but there). My room was very quiet and peaceful

The service was exceptional—every staff member went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Communication was superb; they were always available to answer questions and provide recommendations, which made navigating the area a breeze. The hotel itself is charming, with well-appointed rooms that offer a perfect blend of comfort and style. I highly recommend Steinenschanze Stadthotel to anyone looking for a fantastic stay. Great welcome from reception staff. Appreciated the first drink from the small bar was free. Liked the space where coffee and snacks could be enjoyed at any time of the day - again included within the price. The staff at reception and inn the breakfast area were kind and helpful. Really enjoyed breakfast - the soaked oats with fruit, the fresh wholemeal bread, the range of local cheeses and the cold vegetable buffet. Also appreciated the coffee machine in our charming standard room with free coffees and milks. Location excellent for central Basel and transport links, especially to the airport.
